Maurice Perrenoud

A series of ceramic vessels by the Swiss artist Maurice Perrenoud. Perrenoud lived his life as an artist having studied at La Chaux-de-Fonds. He went on to teach art until 1972 as well as constantly making and exhibiting paintings and sculptures through out his life. This collection is a departure from the brutalist bronze sculptures he is known for. Here he has made a series of vividly glazed ceramic vessels, with a totemic feel. Little icons sit on top of seemingly loosely constructed pots with handles and spouts. The forms are solid and stout; they take on a symbolic and primitive style.  He said of his work "Everything happens in fact at the level of the form, its volume, the material that constitutes it, the light that passes through it, the shadow that animates it, the empty space that gives it rhythm. I only stop my sculptures at the moment when the balance plays in all directions."
